Description

Zequ River Gakong 30MW Hydropower Project (hereafter referred to as “the proposed project”) developed by Qinghai Henan Fuqiang Hydropower Co., Ltd.(hereafter referred to as “the developer”) is a reservoir hydropower project located on Zequ River in Henan County, Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, in the People’s Republic of China (hereafter referred to as the “Host Country”). Total installed capacity of the proposed project will be 30MW, consisting of 3*10MW turbines, with a dam of 21 meter in height and without regulation, and the surface area at full reservoir level will be 0.35km2, so the power density of it will be 85.71W/m2 . 140,280MWh electricity generated by the proposed project will supply to the China Northwest Power Grid1 ((hereafter referred to as “the NWPG”) per annum through Qinghai Power Grid.

The proposed project will utilise the hydrological resources of Zequ River to supply low emission energy to the NWPG. The electricity currently generated by the NWPG is relatively carbon intensive, with an operating margin emission factor of 1.12572 tCO2 /MWh and a build margin emission factor of 0.57393tCO2 /MWh. The average annual emission reductions of the proposed project are estimated to be 119,210 tCO2e.

The proposed project is contributing to sustainable development of the Host Country. Specifically, the project:

★ The proposed project is consistent with China’s national energy policies and the Western Development strategy, and it will alleviate power shortage in the local areas;

★ The proposed project will displace part of the electricity from coal-fired power plants, which will avoid environmental pollution caused by coal burning as well as promote sustainable development of the host country;

★ The proposed project will generate additional employment opportunities and improve the local economy by sales of electricity and CERs, thus alleviate the poverty in Henan County;

★ The proposed project will facilitate the local residents to displace wood-fuel by electricity in their daily This template shall not be altered. It shall be completed without modifying/adding heading or logo, format or font.
