Description
Yunnan Lazhai Hydropower Project (hereafter refers to the proposed project) has total installed capacity of 120MW. The objective of the proposed Project is to utilize water resources of the Long river and Ruili river valley for electricity generation through the installation and operation of three 40MW hydro turbines at Longling, Baoshan, Yunnan Provicne, P. R. China, and the power density is 137w/m2 1. The proposed project is a grid-connected renewable energy project, from which the electricity generated will be sold to the Baoshan Power Grid and then be fed to Yunnan Provincial Power Grid, an integral part of the South China Power Grid. The proposed project activity will achieve obvious greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions by avoiding CO2 emissions, as grid-connected fossil fuel-fired power plants are dominated in the South China Power Grid. The annual average estimated emission reduction over the first crediting period is 469,574 tonnes of CO2e.
Yunnan, locating in the Southwest of China, is one of the poorest provinces throughout the country. The newly installed capacity will directly benefit the local region by creating job and investment opportunities, stimulating economic development, raising the quality of the local power supply and contributing to local government with more tax revenues. Meanwhile, the project will bring online additional power capacity to meet the strong local electricity demand, and originate this power from a renewable energy resource. Economic growth, social benefits and environmental improvement will be achieved in the region by conducting the project. Furthermore, the proposed project is consistent with China’s national energy policy and the Western Development Strategy.
