Description

Yueliangshan 49.5MW Wind Power Project in Yudaokou Town Weichang County Hebei Province (hereinafter referred as YWP or the proposed project) is developed by China Resources Wind Power (Chengde Weichang) Co., Ltd. The proposed project involves the installation of 33 turbines, each of which has a rated output of 1500 kW, providing a total capacity of 49.5 MW. The annual output of the proposed project is estimated to be 111,733 MWh and the electricity will be sold to the North China Power Grid (NCPG) through the Yudaokou 220kV Switching Station. The scenario existing prior to the start of the implementation of the YWP is: The same electricity output by the proposed project activity would have otherwise been generated by the operation of NCPG-connected power plants and by the addition of new generation sources. That is the same as the baseline scenario.

The proposed project will help reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated from the coal- dominated power generation in NCPG. When the proposed project is operated, the electricity generated will displace part of the electricity from the NCPG, and thus GHG generated by coal-fired power plants could be reduced. The estimated annual GHG emission reductions are 117,861 tCO2e. The construction of the project begins in May 2009, and the first turbine is expected to operate in November 2009.

The proposed project will not only supply renewable electricity to grid, but also contribute to sustainable development of the local community, the host country and the world by means of:

  1. GHG emission reduction
  2. The proposed project activity will achieve obvious greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions by avoiding CO2 emissions, as grid-connected fossil coal-fired power plants are dominated in the NCPG.

  3. Pollutants emission reduction through replacing fossil fuel combustion The proposed project is to replace electricity generated by grid-connected coal-fired power plants in the NCPG, and thus reduce fossil fuel consumption and avoid pollutants emission, such as sulfur dioxide and dust, brought by fossil fuel combustion. Therefore, the proposed project has obvious environmental benefit.
  4. Employment opportunities

The proposed project will offer certain job opportunities to the local people, and achieve the economic growth in the region. Furthermore, the utilization of domestic wind turbines will promote the wind turbine manufacturing industries.
