Description

The Tadi 16 MW Hydropower Project in Zhejiang Province (hereafter referred to as the Project) developed by Quzhou Tadi Hydro Complex Development Co., Ltd is sited on the Qujiang River, downstream from the Quzhou City, Zhejiang Province. The primary purpose of the Project is to utilize the water resources of the Qujiang River to generate clean electricity to deliver to East China Power Grid (ECPG) through the Zhejiang Power Grid (ZJPG) without CO2 emissions. Furthermore, the Project can promote the capability of shipping, water supply and irrigation for local area.

The Project is a newly-built hydropower project with the total installed capacity of 16 MW. The increased flooded land area resulting from the Project is 726,400 1 m2, therefore the power density is greater than 22.0 2 W/m2. The designed average annual electricity generation is 63.14 GWh, and the estimated electricity supplied to the grid will be 57.842 GWh annually considering the effective electricity generation, auxiliary consumption and transmission loss 3 . The Project activity will achieve greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions by avoiding CO2 emissions from the business-as-usual scenario,

electricity generated by those fossil fuel-fired power plants connected into ECPG. The estimated emission reductions are 52,324 tCO2e per year.

As a renewable energy project, the Project will produce positive environmental and socio-economic benefits and contribute to the local sustainable development through following aspects:

Contributing to local economy development by providing electricity to meet local increasing energy demands;

       Reducing GHG emissions compared to a business-as-usual scenario;        Reducing the emission of other pollutants resulting from local coal-based power plants, compared to        a business-as-usual scenario;

Creating lots of permanent and short-term employment opportunities for local people during the project construction and operation period.
