Description

Jiangxi Taojiang (Fengkengkou) hydropower station (hereinafter referred as “the proposed project”) is located in Tieshi Town, Xinfeng County, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province. The total installed capacity is 25MW, and annual electricity generated is 77.9GWh. The flooded surface area is 1.58km2, and the power density is about 15.8W/m2. Generated electricity is delivered to Central China Power Grid through Power Grid of Xinfeng County and Ganzhou City. After the project is completed, electricity generated by the proposed project will effectively displace equal amount of the electricity generated by Central China Power Grid which is dominated by fossil fuel power plants, and thus greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions could be achieved. The estimated annual GHG emission reductions will be 71,780tCO2e.

The construction of the proposed project is in compliance with the choice of China energy industry’s priority areas1, and it will contribute to the sustainable development of the host party country and the local area through the following aspects:

The electricity shortage exists in Xinfeng County where the industry development started late. The power shortage has been strongly restricted the local industrial and agricultural development. The annual electricity generation will reach 77,900,000 kWh after Jiangxi Taojiang (Fengkengkou) Hydropower Station is completed, which will make positive impact on alleviating the contradiction between demand and supply of local electric power and create beneficial conditions to promote the industrial and agricultural development of Xinfeng county.

The implementation of the proposed project will provide development opportunity for local supportive industry, drive the development of relevant industry and local economy as well asolve local employment issue, which plays an active role in raising local residents’ living standard and promoting social economic development. The proposed project will displace part of the electricity generated by Central China Power Grid which is dominated by fossil fuel power plants; reduce coal consumption, environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emission caused by coal fire.
