Description
Fujian Beijin Hydropower Project (hereinafter referred as the proposed project) is located in the main stream of Jianxi Stream which is 7km up the urban area of Jian’ou City. It is a low-head pondage hydropower station in river channel, with the total installed capacity of 50MW, and the annual electricity supplied to the grid of 186,650 MWh. The surface area at full reservoir level is 7.33km2 and the power density is about 6.82W/m2. After the proposed project is completed, electricity generated by the proposed project will effectively displace equal amount of the electricity generated by East China Power Grid which is dominated by fossil fuel power plants, and thus greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions could be achieved. The estimated annual GHG emission reductions will be 148,386 tCO2e.
The construction of the proposed project is in compliance with the choice of China energy industry’s priority areas, and it will facilitate the sustainable development of the host party country and the local place in the following aspects:
Alleviating the contradiction between demand and supply of local electric power; Creating employment opportunity;
Reducing GHG emission compared with the conventional fossil fuel power; Reducing emission of other pollutants compared with the conventional power generation methods.
