ACM00042Waste gas and/or heat for power generation

Description

The coking plant with modern clean-type heat-recovery coke ovens in Changzhi City Shanxi Province which is owned by Shanxi Qinxin Coal-Coke Co.Ltd will generate waste gas which can’t be burnable but contain a lot of waste heat. The proposed project adopts the way of heat exchange, and uses the waste heat boiler to collect the waste heat to generate the steam to run the generator for electricity. The electricity generated by the proposed project will meet the electricity demand needed by the coking plant and other plants which are near to the proposed project and also owned by Shanxi Qinxin Coal-Coke Co.Ltd. The electricity will not be sold to Shanxi Power Grid. The proposed project will install four 35t/h waste heat boilers in the first phase and two 35t/h waste heat boilers in the second phase. The total installed capacity is 36MW with annual net supplied electricity 275,614MWh. Shanxi Power Grid is an integral part of the China Northern Power Grid. The project activity will achieve greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions by avoiding CO2 emissions from the business-as-usual scenario electricity generation of those fossil fuel-fired power plants connected into the China Northern Power Grid.Annual emission reductions of the proposed project are estimated to be 270,805tCO2e. The proposed project utilizes the coking waste heat from clean-type heat-recovery coke ovens to generate electricity, which will boost the sustainable development of the local areas in the following aspects:

Utilization of waste heat to generate electricity can save energy and resource and improve thenvironment, which can reach the purpose of colligated utilization of resources and reduction of pollution and accord with national and local industry policies. Reducing GHG emissions and the emission of other pollutants resulting from the power generation industry in China compared to a business-as-usual scenario. Making the coking plant adopt and extend the modern technology of clean-type heat-recovery coke ovens, which can realize the clean production of coke, change the traditional method of coke production and advance the technology level and environment level. Recovery of the waste heat can eliminate the Heat Pollution of the waste heat on environment. At the same time, the temperature of the waste heat can be reduced through running the steam generators making the technology of sulphur dioxide remove and elimination feasible, so the emissions of sulphur dioxide and dust can be reduced and eliminated, which will play a positive role on improvement of air quality.

The local employment can be increased and boosted with 110 long term employment opportunities for local people.
